Sustainability.

To us at Kilmaille sustainability isn’t a new concept it is something that has been developed over generations of farming and rural living. The Kilmaille knitwear brand is intended to be lifelong, reused, repurposed, repaired and recycled. Unwanted items can be returned to the point of manufacture to recover the yarn. Contact us to arrange the return of your item. Garments have a timeless feel to them and are all manufactured on our farm with love.

Combining a love of wool and sustainable practices, Kilmaille has created a space where modern technology and natural fibre co-exist and create meaningful and sustainable knit wear. By producing only WHOLEGARMENT® knits we are dedicated and committed to providing a better future where we rethink the process and reduce waste.

Items are produced on the SHIMMA SEIKI Match2Vs 213, an extremely versatile machine which realizes quality knitting in a range of production styles. As a conventional shaping machine, it is capable of all-needle knitting. WHOLEGARMENT® is the world's first seam-free knitwear. WHOLEGARMENT® products are knitted in three dimensions without seams, offering benefits never before found in any other type of garment. The digital stitch control system uses dynamic tension control to achieve the ultimate performance in digital knitting. High-speed knitting and electronic controls provide consistent quality which is crucial to the precision knitting required in WHOLEGARMENT® production.

This state-of-the-art technology combined with a passion for sustainability means all Kilmaille’s knits are made using only natural products, on farm and with the gentlest possible footprint on the environment. We follow the 7 R model to produce only WHOLEGARMENT® items which means your orders are made with purpose, passion and the least amount of waste possible.

We are proud to have been certified by Ethical Clothing Australia.

Our Wool.

We use Australian grown extra fine merino wool and we specialize in made to order products.

Our wool is grown in Tasmania on Beaufront Station – a sprawling farm situated in Ross, near Launceston. It’s mulesing free, grown to RWS specifications and processed to OkoTex standards.

Once the wool leaves the farm, it is processed at the Tollegno mills in Italy.

Kilmaille Knits acknowledges and respects the traditional custodians of this land, the Wotjobaluk, Marditjali, Jardwadjali and Gunditjmara people and values and respects the traditional owners, past, present and emerging.

We celebrate the rich Aboriginal history of our district.

We are proud to learn from it and honoured to share it with visitors and newcomers to our farm.
